The Marameade Festival drew hundreds in Middletown over the weekend to aid Community Living housing in Frederick. Festivalgoers rode hay wagons, enjoyed ice cream, bands, a derby, fire truck tours, face painting and hot dogs. Proceeds benefitted the housing project in its tenth year.
Cancer survivors from across Frederick County gathered at Frederick Memorial Hospital on Sunday to share stories and thank supporters. Pastor Kenneth Stull, a survivor of esophageal cancer, spoke of his journey and the role of doctors and community. The event, part of the annual Surf Day by the American Cancer Society, highlighted coping with cancer as part of life. Community Living, serving 26 Frederick homes, receives state funding and supports people with developmental disabilities. festival attendance ranges from 700 to 1,000.
English language arts teacher Dawen Doherty narrates a dramatic weight loss after joining a weight reduction program at LVA Weight Loss Centers. Dropping from 172 pounds to a leaner frame, she reveals how cutting favorite foods and vacation trips aided her drastic change and how students, parents, and staff noticed.
Dawn Doherty, 29, shed 45 pounds in ten weeks with LA Weight Loss Center’s one on one counseling program. She reports lower blood pressure higher energy and improved mental alertness. After starting the program she wore a baggy blue dress to lunch and later returned to school in a size 7 8 sundress surprising classmates. Her husband Tim notes she’s happier and can fit into her desired clothes.
