Two Frederick Teens Drown At Linganore Lake Dam
Two Frederick area youths died Sunday at Lake Linganore when one teen sank and his friend jumped in to help. John Robert Rippeon Jr 13 and Shawn Christopher Ewing 16, both from Linganore Road, were swimming near the dam at Eaglehead Drive around 4 10 p m Witnesses said Robert went under about 20 feet from shore Shawn swam to assist but both sank Fire crews recovered their bodies at 6 13 p m April Degrange 17 swam to the site and dived repeatedly to search for them Jason Windsor also helped The victims were TJ Middle School students Robert was the son of John Robert Rippeon Sr and Rebecca Shawn was the son of John and Cheryl Ewing Fire and rescue were called 15 minutes after the drowning Officials said April was treated and released at Frederick Memorial Hospital The group included David Lee 13 Nathan Anders 18 and Douglas Santmier 11 who witnessed the incident They had ridden bikes to Linganore Road then Lake Singapore for a day of fishing and swimming The community mourns the deaths as friends describe the boys as well liked and inseparable
