Graduation Address Defends Laughter at Fashington
Dr George Boas emeritus professor of philosophy at Johns Hopkins gave the keynote at Washington College commencement in Chestertown Maryland urging laughter as a defense of human dignity. He warned of solemnity and noted diplomas are printed in dead languages while naval metaphors mark life’s voyage. The ceremony included robes and centuries old traditions as he urged a lively view of learning.
