County Agent Henry R. Shoemaker reports entomologist T. L. Bissell of the University of Maryland identified the snowflake like insect as woolly alder aphids. They come from Silver Maple bases and migrate to alder bushes near water. Reports came from Plane No. 4 area with people noting cottony specks, a short life span, and a sticky mess on porches. Police gathered samples for entomology study.

Victor Olsen Dies At 65 In Washington
Victor A. Olsen of Danville Pa died suddenly in Washington at 65. A World War I veteran, he led the Administrative Division of the Selective Service in 1957 and directed conscientious objector programs in the U S and abroad. He served under Gen Hershey and was honored with multiple medals. Surviving are his widow, a son Richard C Danville, his father, two sisters and three grandchildren. Funeral plans by Fr Vincent Funeral Home in Danville are incomplete.
