Toll road bottlenecks prompt widening talk on Pennsylvania route
Traffic jams on the four lane toll road from the Ohio line toward Philadelphia stretch through seven Allegheny tunnels narrowing to one lane each way. High costs and labor shortages hinder road building, sparking concern that widening and repairs will be needed but remain unaffordable without tax increases.

Ike’s TV debut misfire ends in rain and rebound
In June 1952 Dwight D. Eisenhower’s first major TV appearance under rain and poor lighting left him looking tired and older. A drenched, hesitant start contrasted with a quicker, sharper performance the next day in a well lit theater where he fielded questions confidently. The episode yielded two lessons: don’t air in rain to look well on TV, and Ike bounces back quickly.
