Black drum run at Cape Charles feeds anglers and crews
Jim Kemp of Emmitsburg and four companions fished with Capt Leroy Yingling on the Doris K III off Cape Charles May 19. They landed seven black drum with a 103 pound Maryland record cited in Virginia waters, while Wareheimer added a first drum catch in years. The group praised the skipper’s skill in locating drum using a fish finder and preferred clams as bait, with May’s peak run lasting into early summer. Ricky Smith of Myersville added a 6 pound 8 ounce flounder at Chincoteague Channel two weeks prior, earning a Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament citation plaque.
