Safety Zone Rejected by MacArthur in Korea Border Plan
Secretary of State Acheson testified that in November Gen. MacArthur rejected an Allied plan for a demilitarized safety zone along the Korean Manchurian border. The idea, backed by Britain and others, aimed to deter Red China without UN troops advancing. Acheson noted MacArthur did not violate orders, while Collins accused him of straying from policy.

U S China policy blamed as distortion on Senate floor
Maine Senator denounces Achesons China policy review as a mire of contrived confusion and accuses the Secretary of outright prevarication or ignorance of State Department actions. Acheson says the U N should be consulted on armistice proposals and Korea political issues require UN involvement. Gillette of Town disputes this reading and repudiates it.
