Battle Over Wallpaper At White House Drives Local Debate
Local readers in Thurmont report a rediscovery of a rare wallpaper depicting Revolutionary War scenes once in the White House dining room. It was removed by Betty Ford in 1975, restored for Carter era rooms, and tied to taxpayer concerns. The piece ties in a 1960s Kennedy era find and a 1830s Thurmont origin, with broader politics about labor reform and youth turnout noted by local observers.
