Druid Theater remembers its Damascus past and closing
Druid builder Clodfelter recalls a 1947 opening with 44 cent adult tickets and five cent candy as the 476 seat Damascus theater, cost 200000 to build, and 32 years of family movies before closure in March to become offices and retail space.

Controversy earns lobbyists plenty in Maryland 1990
ANNAPOLIS AP A vetoed bill extending asbestos suit filing deadlines emerged as a top, costly fight of the 1990 session. More than a dozen lobbyists collected at least 244000 from groups backing or opposing the measure, which would have revived a 20 year statute of limitations on asbestos related lawsuits. The disclosure shows Rifkin Evans Silver and Lamone split 40440 in fees, with other top earners including Bruce Bereano and Franklin Goldstein. Lobbying surged also over a new state lottery computer system and a bid to curb IBM competitive contracts, with payments from G TECH Control Data and Apple Computer. The governor also shifted positions on a triplicate prescription program, backing drug utilization review instead.
