Texas twisters kill two and injure nineteen in outbreak
Severe storms spawned about ten tornadoes from Minnesota to Texas killing two and injuring 19. A west Texas twister near Kaan caused nine car crashes, two troopers were cut by flying glass, and a house collapse injured five. Water supplies were threatened in McCamey as residents were urged to conserve water.

Centuries-old canoe found buried by Red River flood
A 25-foot dugout carved from a single cottonwood log was uncovered near Paris Texas after flooding. Discovered by farmer Dale Moore during a Memorial Day outing the canoe dates to the 1730s or 1740s and bears back marks suggesting French or French trade influence.

Fire company launches junior program in Emmitsburg
Emmitsburg Vigilant Hose Co held a Friday night meeting to introduce a junior fire auxiliary for area youths. About 30 to 40 attendees received applications as officials seek to build a pool of future volunteers for fire and emergency medical work. The first official meeting is planned for July with elections likely in September.
