Downtown Frederick faces parking waste rather than space shortage. Mayor Magaha and Chief Main discuss enforcement as 80 to 90 spaces sit empty daily on the South Court Street lot and three downtown lots remain underused.
Sixty six members of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment from the Frederick National Guard depart Saturday at 6 am for one week in Cambridge to help quell demonstrations and violence in the racially tense city. Company C remains in Frederick. summer training at Camp A.P. Hill follows for both units.

Downtown Frederick unveils its fourth annual Sidewalk Days with a carnival like atmosphere over three days. Local merchants display wares on sidewalks, nurserys exhibit flowers, and Friday features a high school band parade. A kiddie train runs along Market street and churches host bake sales on Saturday.
Mrs. Alice Wilson Magaha wife of Mayor E Paul Magaha died at her Frederick home 237 DIl Avenue this morning at 9 15 oclock age 58 A resident of Frederick for 36 years she was born near Mt Airy daughter of the late John L and Fannie McCubbin Wilson She was active in the Evangelical Lutheran church Broderick Chapter No 79 Order of the Eastern Star PTA and local civic groups Surviving are her husband two sons E Paul Magaha Jr and Douglas W Magaha both of Frederick and many siblings plus four grandchildren The body is at the funeral home where friends may call after 7 oclock Wednesday evening Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 30 oclock with interment Mt Oliver cemetery M R Etchison and Son funeral directors
Maryland officials review a Supreme Court decision striking down Washington state loyalty oath laws. The ruling questions the vague language affecting school staff and state workers. Maryland’s 1950 oath law compels public institution employees and political candidates to deny subversive ties, with past challenges by the Progressive Party and Quaker groups.
Gerald R. Sauter administrative resident at Frederick Memorial Hospital will receive his master degree in Hospital Administration in Minneapolis on June 13 at University of Minnesota graduation exercises. He will also attend an administrative resident institute and Return to Frederick on June 22. The Excelsior, Minnesota native began residency in June 1963 after earning a 1958 University of Minnesota bachelor’s in Agriculture Business Administration. His parents reside in Excelsior.
The Frederick County Commissioners approve an employee suggestion program the first of its kind for the county. A five member board, two county employees and three department heads, will review ideas designed to improve county operations with awards paid in savings bonds up to about 200 dollars annually.
The Glen W. Eyler Post No. 282 of the American Legion in Woodsboro will dedicate its new two story post home this Sunday at 2 p.m. about 250 people are expected. Commander Thomas McCall will deliver the dedicatory address. Eyler, born 1916 in Walkersville, was killed in Germany February 23, 1945 while serving in the 115th Infantry Division National Guard. Thirteen surviving division members are slated to attend from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Silver Spring and local areas. The building cost 30000 dollars and includes a ballroom and social room. A community recreational program is planned for the future. The ceremony will include Walkersville High School band selections and taps by Larry Hartsock.
Magistrate Thompson rejects the defense motion to quash hit-and-run and changing lanes charges against Philip Ralph Dorsey, 22, after finding him guilty and fining him 75 dollars plus costs for hit-and-run and 25 dollars plus costs for changing lanes. State Police at Barracks B investigated a double accident near Ridgeville on U.S. Route 40 and Md. 194, involving Dorsey. Trooper Sanders and Trooper Schlotterbeck testified Dorsey admitted involvement and provided the car’s license plate.
Mrs. Margaret B Rawson assistant professor of economics and sociology at Hood College has earned a National Easter Seal Research Foundation grant in Chicago to study language disability. She will track 60 boys from The School in Rose Valley Philadelphia suburb from 1930 to 1948, comparing those with reading issues to peers without, to gauge effects on later careers.
At Shepherd College commencement in Shepherdstown West Virginia Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman told 173 graduates that rural poverty persists while farm income lags. he warned the revolution of abundance could lead to prosperity or destruction and urged graduates to mold the future with responsible choices.
William M Moore was elected vice president and cashier of the Frederick County National Bank of Frederick at a recent board meeting. He succeeds Glenn E Biehl who became president. Arthur Myers remains chairman of the board after retiring as president.
President Johnson said the Southeast Asia talks in Honolulu seek to improve efficiency and effectiveness of U.S. moves to stem the Communist tide in Laos and South Vietnam. He stressed the region’s future depends on more than jungle warfare and cited peace as the policy aim while noting no plans to extend the Vietnam conflict northward.
William K Shewbridge 18 of Bethesda Md died after a fight outside the Devonshire Grill in northwest Washington. He had just graduated from Staunton Military Academy in Virginia and was with Richard E Edwards 18 of Adelphi Md when assaulted. Edwards survived the incident.
