Memorial Day observance at Mount Olivet for Gulf War families
More than 106 people gathered at Mount Olivet Cemetery for Memorial Day ceremonies honoring those who died in service. The Francis Scott Key American Legion post led a procession, wreath laying, remembrances, and a seven man firing squad. Post commander Darryl L Feaga urged renewed patriotism and asked attendees to remember Gulf War families, noting 146 veteran deaths and the sacrifice of Kuwait’s liberation.

Rededication of SAR stone and bridge monument ceremony
The Sgt Lawrence Everhart Chapter of the Maryland Society of the Sons of the American Revolution hosted a Monday rededication with the Fredericktowne Multia Fife and Drum Corps performing Yankee Doodle Dandy and other tunes. Thomas Summers of the Francis Scott Key Memorial Foundation explained moving the monument and the SAR stone in 1964 from the old Baltimore National Pike, and noted the 1808 Monocacy Bridge Monument’s long history near Fredericktown.
