Short Crop in Washington County Hinders Early Harvest

In the Cumberland Valley around Hagerstown the early potato crop is nearly a failure and late crop prospects are poor due to summer weather and drought. Beans, sweet corn, cabbage, lima beans, tomatoes, and other staples are also short with high prices, while corn brings about double the usual price. The only hopeful sign lies in a potential late crop of seasonable vegetables.
