Sugar Import Probe Finds Civil Action Possible On Back Duties
Philadelphia July 28 a special grand jury found that hundreds of thousands of dollars in duties were defrauded through sugar imports at the port. Prosecutions are barred by statute but civil suits may recover back duties. The jury also suggested reorganization of the local customs service weighing department. The grand jury will report to Washington via the attorney general and treasury secretary.
