Lakeforest Mall Opens With Sears Ahead Of Major Debut
Sears will open Saturday at Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg as the 130 acre project near Montgomery Village gears up for a Sept 12 grand opening. The mixed use center promises four department stores a year round ice rink and extensive greenery to attract shoppers from Montgomery County and beyond while roads and traffic access are being expanded to handle anticipated crowds.

Two Frederick men plead guilty to indecent exposure
In Frederick district court Judge Stanley Y. Bennett accepted guilty pleas from Ronnie Lee Welty 23 and Ronald Ray Reedy 23 for indecent exposure in two May incidents on I 70 and Third Street. Welty was married with one child and faced a presentence investigation after admitting the act. Reedy, a first offender, agreed to probation before judgment and mental health treatment.

Maryland collects eighty one million in alcohol and tobacco taxes
The Maryland State Comptroller reports FY 1978 alcohol and tobacco tax receipts totaling 81,002,423, a one percent drop from FY 1977. Cigarette taxes contributed 7,089,647 while distilled spirits and wine rose modestly. Beer tax fell to 8,653,629, and tobacco taxes totaled 55,686,526, down slightly from 1977.
