Deutschland Readies to Sail From Baltimore
In Baltimore on July 21 Captain Paul Koenig and Captain Frederick Hirsch studied river charts as the Deutschland merchant submarine prepared to depart. A duplicate cargo manifest and a report of 4 million dollars in gold circulated, with insurance underwritten in New York. Political figures and German sources predicted Bremen would reach the coast soon.
