Frederick girl Ann Reen named Girls Nation vice president
Frederick High School junior Ann Kathrine Reen from Adamstown was sworn in as vice president of the Girls Nation during a Dirksen Building ceremony. 114 teens and adults applauded as she assumed the role, part of a week in Washington DC where delegates study constitutional government and debate enacted legislation.

Lydia Wooten of Frederick High and Tanya Smith of Catoctin High were appointed to Gov Schaefer's Youth Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission. They will meet July 23 in Hagerstown with Western Region members to set goals for the coming year. The commission is divided into five regions to address local concerns and solutions.
