The first Optimist zone meet in the Maryland District this fiscal year was held Sunday at Braddock Heights Community Park. Lt. Col ins presided as Zone B leader with officers and members from Braddock Heights Frederick clubs Rockville and Gaithersburg area clubs present. District officers attended and a district board meeting is slated for July 25 26 at the Washingtonian Motel Gaithersburg.

Vacation Bible School at Mt. Tabor Union Church
The Rocky Ridge Community Bible School ran from June 29 to July 10 at Mt. Tabor Union Church with 68 pupils. Nursery, beginner, primary and junior teachers led sessions on Jesus the Promised Savior, followed by a picnic lunch on July 30 for pupils, staff, and families. Directors were Rev. Donald Brake and Rev. Richard Ruoff.

Bartgis's General Staatsbothe Rediscovered At Library
Matthias Bartgis Frederick's first printer published Bartgis's General Staatsbothe in 1793 a German weekly. The volume gifted to C Burr Artz Library by Mrs W Bartgis Storm and Mrs William M Moore includes twenty six issues from January 5 to December 21 1793. The paper covered foreign and domestic news and carried advertisements including runaway slave rewards and Mill ads. It notes Washington with toasts including Paine and Burke and describes Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette's fate.

Frederick Victory ship immortalized in library records
In Suisun Bay the SS Frederick Victory rests in reserve. The Frederick ship, launched September 9 1944, aided WWII effort and carried troops and 1400 POWs to the United Kingdom and Europe. Frederick citizens funded its library and recreation gear during its wartime service.
