No Report On Jail Visit By Maryland Legislators
Frederick County Sheriff Horace M. Alexander said no word has been received about Friday’s unan nounced inspection of the county jail by state legislators. The four county jails visited were Frederick, Montgomery, Howard and Carroll. The tour was to gauge feasibility of state takeover and to check personnel salaries and qualifications and jail conditions. No comments were offered on the jail’s condition or operation. The committee, appointed by Governor Tawes, will present recommendations after visiting all Maryland jails. Members included Byron, Melnerney, Weant, Wheatley, Boyer and Snyder.
