Water Ban Proves Value During Storm

The city’s 422 midnight water ban proved its worth as lightning struck the Linganore filtration plant, forcing a six hour shutdown. Water in the elevated tank fell to 21 feet and could have dropped further without the ban, potentially leaving parts of the city without water during fires. The plant resumed partial operations after a Potomac Edison transformer arrived, and the ban remains in force pending developments. The storm also affected local rivers, with rain totals around an inch and a half and a 52 degree low after an 82 degree high, as forecasters expect scattered showers and cooler conditions ahead.
