Wheat field fire destroys twenty acres on county farm
Approximately 20 acres of standing wheat burned on the Herbert W Duvall farm along Glade road near Walkersville on Wednesday afternoon. Four fire companies Thurmont Frederick Walkersville and New Midway with seven engines fought the blaze in three-fent wheat, slightly more than a third of the crop was saved. The fire likely started from the recently used combine as it completed the outside round. The alarm reached Frederick at 2:50 p m. The new and old city pumpers responded, and Walkersville engines ran out of water just as Independents arrived.
