Doctor Drak Maps extols health as a boon and calls Lydia E Pinkham's Vegetable Compound a blessing to Briton and nation. It purportedly cures mothers and daughters and makes them well and strong.
The U S steamer Michigan suffered serious damage when the freighter M B Grover crashed into her at the Erie dock. Grover was driven 150 feet by full headway and the impact splintered decks. Commander Winder estimates $10 000 in losses and says Michigan will be out of commission for months for repairs.
The royal yacht Victoria and Albert with King Edward Queen Alexandra and princesses anchored at Cowes roadstead after a Portsmouth departure. King Edward not fatigued by the trip and expressed pleasure at the change, with a long stay anticipated for short day cruises in good weather. A telegraphic cable linked the yacht to shore. In Johnstown Windber, Slav miner John Savach and two others were injured when dynamite exploded in Berwind-White Mine No. 34. Savach was killed.

A special report from Seattle says David Merrill, who escaped from Oregon penitentiary with Harry Tracy on June 9, was found dead with a bullet wound in the back. Merrill last appeared June 26 in Tumwater Canyon. Tracy claimed they dueled and Merrill died. authorities believe Tracy killed him to escape the pursuit. The body was found by Mrs. Wagner and her 12-year-old son near Napavine. she will claim a $2730 reward. The body lay over a log between two tree stumps off the road.
In Johnstown Pennsylvania on July 16 officials and residents search for missing miners from the Rolung mine disaster. Father Dembinski says about 20 members of his parish are unaccounted for as work resumes with 160 miners back at their posts and no new bodies found. Elsewhere in Christiania the US warships Illinois Chicago and Albany were honored and King Oscar II invited Rear Admiral Crowninshield and ship commanders to dine at the palace tomorrow.
Informal conference of anthracite road presidents in New York discusses the strike. Rev Father J J Curran reports discouragement and will not seek further settlement talks. President Baer of Philadelphia and others affirm no concessions and insist workers must return to work.
The Daily Mail report from Vienna describes a Macedonian rising near Monostar in European Turkey. Rebels held a trench line on the Qs trovo river withstood 1000 Turkish regulars and several hundred Bashi-Bazouks for a week before Turks used women and children as a screen to storm the position. The rebels fire caused heavy casualties among civilians as Turkish forces dispersed them and then massacred residents, looting and burning houses.
Peter Tilton, engineer of a gravel train on the New York and Long Branch Railroad, died when his engine collided with a passenger train bound for New York near Branchport. An open switch is suspected. The gravel fireman survived with injuries after being hurled 30 feet.

Chicago July 1. The famed John W Gates corner in July collapsed after private settlements with Flrais, Gates & Co. The July price fell to 65 8 cents then 65 1/2 cents as profits were estimated over 1.5 million dollars to be shared among several millionaires. Gates and partners held 4 to 6 million bushels awaiting disposal before the corner cleared. Farmers held back until July rose, then cash corn flooded Chicago. Hearst Gates group withdrew support and closed the deal.
A Columbia party Ralph Sweeney 40 and his son Harold 10 with Joseph Seepert and Walter Descher were fishing on the Susquehanna near Chickies Rock. Their boat capsized in rapids, Seepert and Descher were rescued. Sweeney and his son drowned after he attempted to save the boy.
War Department confirms Second Lieutenant Oscar C. Mamdaxy of the Philippine Scouts died of cholera on July 14 in Manila. He was born in Shook, Tennessee. The report also notes a violent cyclone on July 18 causing damage to river vessels and the Alcazar, with ships wrecked and factories affected.
