Hessian regiments in captivity revealed in Bavarian diary tale

Dr. Harold J. Clem, now with U S Military Government in Germany, returns to the United States for a vacation. He has been in Munich supervising Bavarian archives and libraries and salvaging looted books and art. He found a diary by Johann Ernst Prechtel, a first lieutenant in an Ansbach regiment, detailing the Hessian troops stationed in Frederick Town and Winchester during the Revolution. The diary notes their march from Winchester to Frederick and life in the Frederick barracks, with vivid notes on the cold, marches, and internment ending in 1783.
