Rent Problems Aired Today In Frederick OPA Session

City and County property owners and tenants were invited to present rent problems this afternoon at East Church Street. State Director Leo H. McCormick and other OPA officials explained price and rent controls in Maryland. Edward D. Condron and Leslie J. Clark were to attend to answer questions and offer guidance.

Emmitsburg Women’s Club Picnic And Events

Twenty seven members attended an Emmitsburg Women’s Club afternoon of games at Mrs. Lewis Topper’s home. Mrs. Edwin Chrismer won first in 300, Mrs. E R Shriner took bingo, and Mrs. Charles Myers won the prize draw. The hostess served cake for Mrs. Chrismer’s birthday as the club president. A picnic and reports for the Col lege Park short course were planned, with local members attending and a lawn supper planned if weather permits.

Woodbine Negro Sentenced For Term

Fritz Meyers a 27 year old Woodbine Maryland man was sentenced to three and a half years in Federal prison after pleading guilty to stealing 27 watches and other jewelry along with 730 in cash from the Army post exchange at Westover Army Air Base Massachusetts. Meyers was arraigned here under the new Federal rules procedure and the sentence was deferred until today pending study of Massachusetts law.

Poland Defeated in Security Council Vote on Franco Spain

In New York on June 24 the United Nations Security Council rejected Dr. Oscar Lange's call for an immediate rupture of diplomatic relations with Generalissimo Francisco Franco. The vote was 7 to 4, with Russia France and Mexico backing Poland while the rest abstained or opposed. Lange salvaged a shift by keeping Spain before the Council until Wednesday.

Clerical force cut hits Maryland Selective Service offices

Selective Service began its first ordered cut in clerical staff across Maryland local offices with effect June 21. In Frederick’s Board One Miss Louise Brashears, a four year veteran of war service temporary employment, was severed from the draft board under state directives.

Divorces Granted In Equity Court

Absolute divorces were granted in Equity Court on Monday for James J. Charrison of Knoxville and Nina V. Stride of this city. Charrison was divorced from Ethel Mae Harrison of Baltimore, cited infidelity, and he must pay court costs. Stride was divorced from Robert M. Stride of 257 Washington Street, charged with adultery, and she may resume her maiden name Nina V. Stone. costs were assigned.

Liberty District Leads as Early Ballot Returns Reported

Frederick County reports show GOP votes light in Liberty District with officials counting them first. Democratic tallies from Buckeys Town No 1 and Republican from Buckeystown No 3 arrive. by 10:30 p.m. Democrats steadily trail or lead as results come in.
