Beall Explains Vote Against British Loan

Washington July 16 Congressman J Glenn Beall explained his vote against a 3 750 000 000 loan to Britain. He argued the money would come from American taxpayers, require new taxes, and that Congress lacks authority to extend credit with taxpayer funds. He warned the loan would open a wedge for gifts to other nations and harm US workers and markets. He noted England’s weak security, past defaults, and existing loans from Canada and the RFC. He urged funds be kept for veterans and the aged.
