Amphitheater project aims at Gathland State Park
Gathland State Park to begin a natural outdoor amphitheater in mid August. Forests and Parks director H Kaylor outlined plans with Pomona Grange Youth Committee to supply manpower and tools for grading and landscaping. The project aims for over 2,000 seating in a sylvan setting with ample parking and will involve three years of work with heavy equipment next month for grading. Crum of Pomona Grange outlined state plans for terraced seating, sod floor stage, arbor vitae backdrop, two ten foot fireplaces, and landscaping to prepare for spring use. Final public access needs and dressing rooms will await user demand analysis. The Grange and area churches seek use of the facilities, though the site is open to Maryland recognized groups. This is the only public amphitheater planned for a Maryland state park.
