Twelve people were killed and three injured in three explosions at industrial plants across Indiana Illinois and California. Det. Sgt. Charles V. Main was elected chairman of the Frederick County Chapter American Red Cross at the annual election held at the Chapter house. He assumed duties immediately and received an award for exceptional fund drive work during March with over 16300 subscribed toward a 13000 quota. Officers elected include Mrs. Oram Wolpert first vice chairman Mrs. Harrison McAlpine second vice chairman Paul Michael treasurer E W VanFossen assistant treasurer and Mrs Ernest S Webb secretary. Mrs Webb presided in the absence of the 1950 51 chairman Charles A Price. The canteen nurses aid and staff aid services are re activated and training for nurses aid and staff aid workers is under way. Canteen service is expected in September. The unit will coordinate with the regional blood defense program and the chapter received a national Red Cross certificate for distinguished achievement in the 1931 fund. About 30 contributors attended. Other service reports were presented.

Takes Appeal On $500 Bond After Assault Conviction

Spurlock claimed self defense after an early morning kitchen dispute. Other defendants include Carl Ruby fined for passing a toll, and several motorists fined for traffic offenses with amounts listed alongside names and cities. A lightning bolt struck a Randalls town home as a thunderstorm hit at dusk, setting fire to the second floor and a new bedroom suite belonging to Ivan Gamber.
