Enlistments Boom In Cities Across Nation
Enlistment applications surged across U S recruiting offices as Truman authorized resumption of the draft. Officials note the rise tied to Korea fighting and the new wartime mood. Navy reports swamped offices in Los Angeles with 30 enlistments daily, Chicago officers call it the busiest since the last wartime draft, and volunteers include many women and former Waves and Wacs. Pentagon says draft volume will depend on volunteer rates. Creagerstown Grange holds July 22 outing with a patriotic program and community participants.
