Twin Air Force trainer crashes near Catoctin retreat
Two pilots Lt. Charles C. Richards of Detroit and J James Robert McWilliams of Farmington died when a Beechcraft trainer from Selfridge Field crashed in a heavy rainstorm near Route 77 and the Appalachian Trail in the Catoctin Recreation Area. State police recovered 79 bodies at the wreckage and identified the pilots as weekend Reserve officers from the 439th Troop Carrier Wing. The crash occurred about 1:30 am, the plane overran the top of a mountain, and daylight recovered the bodies after a rough search through debris in the Bead and Hagestown area. Residents reported destruction and the crash shook nearby cabins. Authorities said the aircraft had taken off from Harbor Field in Baltimore around 12:40 am.

Heavy Showers Delay Wheat Harvest and Weather Brief

Six Pennsy Coaches Derailed Three Hurt
