20 Years Ago Today It Was 109 Degrees
Frederik residents recall a brutal July 1956 heat wave that peaked at 109 degrees in the shade after days of 105 July 9 and 106 by July 10. Heat caused some crop and plant losses and limited business to showers for cooling, while a midnight rain brought relief at 102 degrees. The forecast hinted cooler days ahead with scattered showers and easing humidity, as a warming trend was expected to reverse.
