ECA Head Urges U S Money To Aid Europe

Utility poles are being moved back for 2.7 miles of U S Route 15 from Evergreen Point to Lime Kiln. Sam Finley Inc of Atlanta is awarded a 251 715 contract but has not started. The project widens the south route to 24 foot driving surface and includes rerouting to remove hazardous curves. Bridge ramps and interchange at the new Washington Pike connection will require separate contracts. Heavy rock for Monocacy river bridge rip rap is being hauled, with deck completion planned as abutment fill stabilizes. Young Mother Shot During Hog Chase in Georgia

Veteran Marine Sgt Earl Trimmer Home on 30 Day Leave
Sgt Earl Trimmer of Woodsboro a First Marine Division veteran who saw heavy fighting in Korea arrived home for a 30 day leave with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Trimmer. He recalled front line units clearing snipers and described harsh weather during entrapment at the Chosan reservoir. Trimmer, born February 9 1930, enlisted May 6 1948 after training at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune. He will report back to Yorktown Virginia on August 7 and was welcomed by many friends and relatives over the weekend.

Corporal Claude TH Belcher 22 of Dickerson survived ten wounds in Korea while serving with the 38th Regiment Second Division. Reported missing February 12, he was wounded in November and hospitalized in Tokyo until January 21. He enlisted July 1949 after graduating Poolesville High School. Family details note brothers Samuel and James also served in WWII and a sister Barbara Joan. Father works as a sheet metal worker at Fort Meade.

General Markey to visit Philippines World War II cemetery
Gen D John Markey of Walkersville will depart late this month to inspect Fort McKinley cemetery near Manila. Two National Guard Divisions alerted for Europe move
Washington reports the Army alerted two national guard divisions for movement to Europe this fall. The 28th Division from Pennsylvania and the 43rd drawn from Rhode Island, Connecticut and Vermont join two regular army divisions, the 4th Infantry and 2nd Armored, already en route.
