Frederick County prompts 17 new schools in decade plan

Edgar Larson to head Frederick County Board of Education

Edgar W. Larson, a four year board member, was unanimously elected to a one year term as president of the Frederick County Board of Education, taking over from Sue Rovin. Patricia Mangiafico was re elected vice president. Larson pledged his own style while thanking colleagues for the vote.

Body of drowning victim recovered in Maryland quarry

Roger Eugene Thomas, 22, of Carver Apartments, drowned Wednesday while helping a friend at a water-filled quarry on Lime Plant Road. Maryland State Police divers retrieved his body at 1:10 p.m. Thursday from about 35 feet of water near a cliff. autopsy planned. The search faced cold water and low visibility.
