Salary raises for top welfare officials spark clash in Annapolis
The Maryland Board of Public Works voted 2 1 to raise Director Raleigh C Hobson from 17000 to 20000 annually and increase assistant director from 14020 to 17526 despite objections from Comptroller Louis L Goldstein. State Treasurer John Leutkemeyer supported the plan as Tawes joined him in voting yes. Goldstein called the moves unfair and urged reclassification of top jobs.
