A tornado tore through upper Montgomery county last night uprooting trees and blowing down a barn owned by James F. Lawrence near Hyattstown. Fire spread to the remaining structure, with Hyattstown fire crews fighting the blaze into early morning. Weather data notes cooler temperatures ahead and regional power outages were reported. The event occurred as Lawrence traveled in Damascus. Mrs. Lawrence returned from Bethesda.

New School Plans Near Finish As Board Approves Additions
Final plans for Urbana elementary School with 15 classrooms expected in about two weeks were approved for review by a committee. A seven classroom addition for New Market elementary was tentatively approved with public review and input planned. Plans include a library and multipurpose space with state funds totaling 910000 enabling the project. The board also approved a 17300 contract for electrical work at Thurmont High and adjusted tuition rates for nonstate and out-of-county students for the coming school year. Public auction planned for abandoned Buckerstown and Wolfsville school buildings. The Hood College scholarship at Frederick Female Seminary awarded to Mrs. Ellen Besley. Change orders for Thurmont elementary add include toilet facilities and wiring updates. Evening library access was approved for Middletown and other high schools on a test basis.

A Tuesday evening storm in the Urbana district and Walkersville killed several farm animals. A. F. Rees, Inc, dead animal removers, reported seven animals picked up yesterday and more this morning. A riding horse owned by Miss Patricia Rosencrantz in Urbana was killed.
