Severe storms hit Frederick city last night leaving at least two thirds of the street lighting system out and blocking streets with downed trees and limbs. City Light Superintendent Max Kehne said many wire spans burned out by lightning and some tree limbs fell on lines. Crews restored service by about 4 a.m. though underground cable trouble remains. Street Superintendent Russell Morgan said North Market and East 13th streets were blocked until crews cleared trees and branches, with crossings reopened by about 1 36 a.m. Large limbs blocked East 15th Street and widespread tree debris prompted dispatch of multiple city crews to clear roads.

Robi Hogan, 26, a Houston native working in the Piedmont area, was fined 170 for five motor vehicle charges after leading State Police on a high speed chase in a red and white 1955 Ford. The chase began west of Frederick. Hogan paid 100 for speeding over 30 mph, 25 for over 50 mph, 10 for license absence, 25 for wrong way on a one way, and 10 for running a red light. Police described speeds of 85 to 90 mph during the pursuit. Hogan claimed to not know his speed.
