Norfolk and Western seeks to buy track in Penn Central reorganization
Norfolk and Western aims to acquire sections of track from Penn Central and other bankrupt lines under federal reorganization. President John P. Fishwick says the purchases would cost a few million and do not signal a change in attitude toward the government plan seen as nationalizing parts of Penn Central. Purchases include Cincinnati to Elwood trackage, Ha gerstown to Harrisburg rights, and links between Delaware and Hudson and Harrisburg, potentially shortening routes to St. Louis but requiring costly repairs on about 100 miles of track.
