Frederick City and Frederick County will receive a $199,000 Housing and Urban Development grant to fund acquisition and rehabilitation of deteriorating properties on South Market Street. The grant, random allocation under the 1974 act, is officially awarded to Commissioners President Lawrence A. Dorsey and Mayor Ronald N. Young.

New juvenile detention center to open at jail
Frederick County will open a juvenile detention center Wednesday in the county jail. Renovation by inmates created two, bed-equipped rooms with mint green walls and protective screens. Juveniles will be held up to 48 hours for hearings before transport to state facilities if needed.

Jail escapee captured in York Pennsylvania
A 23 year old felon who escaped from Frederick County jail eight and a half months ago was arrested in York Pennsylvania and returned to Frederick County jail. Robert Steven Simms of Dickerson Maryland had been jailed on felonious assault robbery and related charges in the July 1974 stabbing of Frederick grocer Richard S. Hane. He had pleaded guilty and awaited sentencing. Other police activity included Richard Allen Dixon arrested on a warrant for receiving stolen goods and James Carson Nokes jailed on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court.
