Tax Problems Of State Outlined By Bonnell Rotary Talk
Robert Bonnell, state Economy League chairman and Morris Plan Bank president, spoke to the Rotary Club at the Francis Scott Key Hotel. He urged passing practical economic ideas to the General Assembly, urged spending cuts over tax hikes, warned on state debt, and discussed possible relief funding options from bonds, taxes, lotteries, gas tax, and inheritance tax. He argued for attracting capital rather than heavy taxation to prevent capital flight. The discussion touched on public utilities taxes and payroll taxes as alternatives, noting constitutional concerns with some methods. Joining him were Jesse W. Kolb and Joseph Linch.
