Damage suit verdict favors defendant in Thurmont auto crash
In Thurmont a jury in Circuit Court returned a verdict for defendant Wesley P. Stephens of Woodstock Virginia in a $1000 auto damage suit filed by Edward C. Gallagher of Washington DC. Gallagher will seek a new trial alleging improper legal instructions were read to the jury. The case involved a June 11 1933 collision at the southern end of Thurmont with Stephens mother Charlotte P Stephens owner of the car. Judge William J. Stoner fined Stephens $5 for reckless driving and the trial followed a Sunday session, later deemed illegal. The jury deliberated about twenty minutes before the verdict.
