EPA Pushes Immediate Ban on Some Asbestos Products
The EPA proposes an immediate ban on asbestos clothing, cement pipe and fittings, vinyl floor tile, and roofing and flooring felt, with phased reductions on imports and mining over 10 years. Additional options call for broader bans on construction products, friction items, and other asbestos products, aiming to prevent about 1,900 cancer deaths annually. The plan, to be announced by Lee Thomas, includes hearings, public comment, and a final agency decision after evaluating alternatives.
