Eggs With Blood Spots Linked to Early Production
College Park January 22 Dr Robert E Phillips of the University of Maryland notes that eggs with blood spots are acceptable for consumption and show no link to embryonic development. Blood spots are common when pullets begin laying, may alarm housewives, and candling can help detect and remove affected eggs before sale. Preparation using a simple box and a 40 or 50 watt bulb in a darkened room suffices for candling. After several weeks of laying the abnormality diminishes, he adds.
