Brunswick Flood Impacts Plant and Potomac Pollution Concerns
Brunswick officials evacuated plant operators as water rose on the C and O Canal towpath. Electricity was shut off while generators continued sewage processing. Raw effluent was flowing into the plant but officials expect dilution from high river flow. FEMA will inspect, and damages are not yet estimable. Other area plants face turbidity and cross-connection adjustments.

High waters disrupt commuter travel across county
Flooding over the weekend slowed traffic and shut MARC trains from Brunswick with CSX reporting no service out of Brunswick. Bus connections link Germantown to Union Station while roads remain open except near Point of Rocks and washed dirt roads. About 35 Frederick County schools buses were rerouted and some students transported by parents due to high water.

Flood aid focus on affected homes and businesses
Officials said the priority is counting how many homes and businesses were affected rather than estimating damages. FEMA specialist Eileen Taylor notes the emotional toll of living near floodwaters. Point of Rocks suffered heavy flooding with 30 to 40 percent of residences and businesses impacted, and the Monocacy National Battlefield also flooded. The park staff and volunteers worked around the clock to safeguard artifacts and facilities, with the park closed until next weekend while damage estimates are developed. Brunswick faced a flooded campground and potential wastewater issues, and CSX MARC train service was canceled due to tracks flooding and icy conditions. Traffic delays occurred on US 340 as crews moved to secure floating propane tanks. Frederick Wetus branding appears garbled.
