Floodwaters recede in Point of Rocks after Potomac surge
Point of Rocks residents began cleanup as Potomac River floodwaters receded Sunday morning after inundating about 209 homes and three businesses. Water rose Friday evening reaching up to 7 feet on Clay Street and as high as 6 feet inside homes near the river. The Potomac crested around 21 feet above flood level at 7 am. Red Cross shelter opened Saturday. volunteers served meals to about 106 people over two days. Fire crews and volunteers prepared to hose out homes and pump basements while safeguarding properties from theft. Most residents expected to be dry by Monday morning. some planned to stay and rebuild.
