Colleges face financial squeezes across three schools
Mount St Marys, St Josephs and Hood College report budget cuts and tuition changes to balance deficits. Mount St Marys avoids deficits by cutting spending on facilities and salaries with no tuition raise planned. St Josephs defers maintenance and raises tuition by 130 while sharing facilities with Mount St Marys. Hood College freezes new construction and trims faculty, with tuition up from 3150 to 3400. Private colleges seek potential state or federal aid as survival hinges on support.

Hutto declines to discuss My Lai murder charges
Hutto said he would not answer questions about My Lai and planned to leave the Army soon. His civilian lawyer Edward Magill argued the case tests the Army discipline system and questioned whether soldiers could be liable for actions ordered by supervisors. The defense contends Hutto followed orders from Captain Medina and other officers, with witnesses describing Medina ordering to kill in My Lai. The military judge noted evidence implying an illegal order, while Magill argued Hutto did not know it was illegal and never heard of unlawful commands.
