Maryland considers free tuition for top students
Maryland University officials study a merit based plan to waive tuition for the top 25 percent of state students to prevent brain drain and lure talent back from out of state. The proposal, pending Board of Regents approval, could cover up to 251,875 students and costs at least 2.7 million annually. A parallel recommendation would grant free tuition to employees and their families starting July 1 to aid recruitment.
