King’s work dream honored in church service

Battle over Braddock Heights radio tower bid rises

A new request to operate a radio tower in Braddock Heights goes before the Frederick County Board of Appeals on Jan. 23. Barbara Marmet from Silver Spring proposes antennas on a partially built tower on Old Swimming Pool Road. The Braddock Heights community has long opposed towers, with previous applicants and Joy Public Broadcasting facing opposition and delays since 1982. The tower, begun in 1984 by Joy Public Broadcasting, remains unfinished as permits lapse and FCC actions continue.

Civic group to monitor city affairs in Frederick

The Frederick City Civic Association plans ongoing oversight of Carroll Creek and a bank expansion. Warm temperatures aid Frederick County snow cleanup efforts

Crews cleared snow packed roads Monday aided by unseasonably warm temperatures that reduced rush hour traffic and aided salt distribution. Frederick and surrounding areas reported minimal accidents as moisture moved from the southeast and temperatures rose into the mid forties. Weather forecasters expect several above normal days with highs near 50 by Tuesday and mild conditions through Friday. The warmer spell continues the trend of balancing prior December cold snaps.

Hood College Oil Spill Fouls Culler Lake Ducks

Officials and citizen volunteers cleaned over 100 oil coated ducks from Culler Lake after a Carroll Creek spill from Hood College. Frederick County Public Safety Director John Croneburg said the leak involved under 100 gallons of oil.

Ducks cleaned after fuel oil spill into Carroll Creek

Frederick Animal Control officer Ralph Gann and volunteer Jane Ritmiller aided by Hood College staff cleaned two ducks stained with fuel oil from a burst pipe near Culler Lake. Murphy's Oil Soap helped break down the residue without harming duck oils as officials contained the slick with booms and mobilized city county and state environmental teams.
