Hoyer urges approval of sunsetting state agencies bill
Maryland Senate push for a sunset bill to abolish 60 state boards and agencies by 1981 unless continued after review. Senators say the measure tests budgetary muscle and forces proof of need, targeting boards such as the Movie Censor Board, Racing Commission, Banking Board, Insurance Commissioner, Barber Board, Undertakers Board, Pharmacy Board, Well Drillers Board and Veterinarian Board. Senate action follows prior failed House passage and includes a related move to abolish the Bedding Advisory Board.
