White birth rate declines while other groups grow, census says
The census director Durand notes a gradual decline in white birth rates per decade, a marked drop among Black birth rates, and a near tripling of Japanese population from 1900 to 1910. Whites still increase faster than Blacks overall, with migration and undercounting partly shaping the gap. The article also cites South region growth and sex ratios in native white populations, alongside notes on childbirth trends and health factors. California leads Pacific Coast savings banks and deposits, and a cough remedy is recommended as Chamberlin’s.
