Strikers demand eight hour day higher wages and better conditions with no violence. Major unions plan broad action, targeting 70 000 more workers, as talks with employers have stalled. The strike centers on men’s and boys’ clothing with a weekly pay aim of 102 dollars for men and 20 percent wage rise for others.
Miss Bessie Townsend aged twenty four was appointed Atlantic City city controller at a salary of 1500 dollars yearly. She replaces David R Barrett dismissed for issuing a 21000 dollar warrant to Pennsylvania railroad over a timber water main project.
