Burkittsville Adopts 30-Cent Tax Rate for 1962

The Burgess and Commissioners of Burkittsville set a 30 cent tax rate for 1962, down from 25 cents after years of stability. The reduction stems from higher assessable values, debt repayment in 1961, and increased state and county revenue. The meeting highlighted a thriving Christmas tree display, road and lighting improvements, and plans for spring street program discussions. The Carroll County Appeals Board approved three trailer park permits, with landscape requirements for Lassiter, temporary status for Uphoffs, and new site locations for Harrison. A separate pact between the United States and Dominican Republic was signed for a technical economic agreement, details undisclosed.
